Working Title: Animal Care Technician II - Dairy Enterprise
FTE: 100
Position Summary:
The Dairy Enterprise Animal Care Technician II reports to the Dairy Enterprise Manager and is responsible for assisting with the management and husbandry of the dairy herd in the Dairy Learning Center. The individual will also assist with other livestock enterprises on the Mann Valley Farm. The individual will perform and assist with daily operations on the Laboratory Farm including milking, feeding and general animal husbandry and follow animal care, animal welfare and IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) rules and regulations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in dairy or animal science or agricultural related discipline
- Considerable knowledge of and experience with dairy herd management,
- Ability to perform necessary and needed daily operations of the dairy facility including milking, feeding, and care of the dairy herd,
- Knowledge of and experience in use of sophisticated and basic scientific equipment,
- Ability to safely, and effectively, operate farm equipment,
- Perform routine maintenance of the dairy area and equipment as needed,
- Strong problem solving, analytic and organizational skills,
- Self-starting abilities are essential,
- Physical ability to lift 50lbs and successfully pass a post-offer employment test,
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license which would permit Wisconsin certification to drive University vehicles.

A criminal background check will be completed on final candidates. It will also require you and your most recent employer to answer questions regarding sexual violence and sexual harassment. The selected candidate must be able to pass a post-offer employment test and hold a valid driver's license to obtain Wisconsin certification to drive University vehicles. The hiring range for this position is $18.00-$20.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
