The CareerAdvance USA Lab Assistant will report to the Coordinator of Advanced Manufacturing. The Lab Assistant has responsibility to provide the maintenance of the laboratories facilities that support instruction in the Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship programs. This includes all the laboratories that support instruction in the program with specific focus on the Computer-Aided Drafting Laboratory and Prototyping Laboratories. Assist students and Instructor in the laboratory, as necessary. Supervise students and assist other departments and areas affiliated with the CareerAdvance USA program. This is a grant funded position.
Specific Responsibilities & Duties:
Maintenance of the Mechanical Engineering Technology Laboratories:
a. Maintenance of tools and tooling. Scheduling of needed service and repair calls. b. Conduct inventory on materials and tools need for lab. 40% Security and Safety: a. Be available to assist students in the safe operation of equipment. b. Oversee the security of expensive tools and equipment including lock-up. c. Keep the prototyping lab neat and orderly. d. Maintain all the necessary documentation for compliance with “Right-to-Know” requirements.
Assist in Classroom Operation:
a. Prepare and set up equipment for class. b. Help in dissemination of shop equipment to students maintaining accountability. c. Assist faculty by working with individual, and groups of students during set up and operation of equipment. Safety and concern for possible damage to equipment are of particular importance.
Supervision of students
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and related programs, excellent computer skills, good phone skills, customer service skills, attention to detail, self-motivated, good communications skills, ability to work under pressure, sensitivity in handling confidential information. Fluent in Spanish a plus.
Experience with Solid works and Manual Machining both Lathe and Mill.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
