The University of Minnesota—Twin Cities invites applications for the position of Senior Fellow at the Technological Leadership Institute (TLI). The incumbent of this position will also hold the concurrent title of Director of Operations for TLI. This is a full-time, non-tenured, annually renewable, academic-administrative appointment that reports to the Director of TLI.
The mission of TLI is to provide professional development for high technology professionals. To that end, the Senior Fellow & Director of Operations will be responsible for:
1) Outreach and New Program Development (40%)
Forge relationships on behalf of TLI with industry partners and other academic units within the University. Play a lead role in identifying continuing-education needs in technology-intensive industries and develop innovative, financially-viable learning experiences to meet those needs. This may be in the form of new graduate programs, certificates and non-credit short course offerings offered by TLI itself or in partnership with other academic units. Serve as a subject matter expert and resource within TLI for designing and delivering academic content across a range of modalities including in-person, remote (synchronous and asynchronous) and hybrid.
2) Teaching and Advising (30%)
Teach graduate-level leadership and organizational effectiveness courses across TLI’s MS programs, short courses and public seminars. Expected teaching load is the equivalent of two 1-1.5 credit courses per semester. Work in collaboration with TLI’s Directors of Graduate Study and Senior Fellows to ensure leadership content is appropriately incorporated into all curricula. Serve as an occasional advisor and resource to students on capstone projects, research, technology commercialization and other initiatives.
3) Directing Operations (30%)
Provide supervision and general oversight to a staff of 9 professionals with responsibility for providing operational management of marketing, recruitment, and admissions activities, and oversight of student services operations and financial/HR administration for the unit. Provide approvals for high-level financial and administrative decisions, negotiate contracts on behalf of TLI, and interact with the College of Science and Engineering and central University offices as needed on administrative matters.
A successful candidate for this position will have experience in the development and implementation of professional-development programs and the management of educational programs.
A graduate degree in education, management, human resources or organization development, or some equivalent field
At least 10 years of experience in the development of educational curricula, co-curricular short courses, and/or training programs for industry and/or academic learners.
Significant subject matter expertise and experience in designing and delivering leadership development courses and experiences.
Experience overseeing and managing a team responsible for the delivery and administration of internal or external customer services
Industry experience training and/or developing technical or scientific professionals. Development and delivery experience in classroom, online/remote, and hybrid formats is highly desirable.
Prior college-level teaching or professional training and development experience in a leadership, technical, or management discipline.
Doctorate in education, human resources, organizational development/behavior, or some similar field.
Experience in recruitment, marketing, and/or educational/training operations.
