The Diabetes Foot/Wound Care Physician Assistant (PA) functions as a member of the Endocrine/Diabetes and Wound Care teams at UC San Diego Health. The PA will function as a consultant for diabetes patients with high-risk feet to provide routine foot care including callus care, nail care, prescribing diabetic footwear, etc. as well as wound care for any mild to moderate foot/lower extremity ulcers or wounds. The Diabetes Foot/Wound Care Physician Assistant will provide services to outpatients, families, and healthcare team. Selected candidate will work with the Endocrine/Diabetes and Wound Care teams to implement evidence-based practice to ensure quality patient outcomes, provide education to clinical staff including NP and PA students, and support quality improvement projects.
Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the PA or Sr. PA level.

Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
Current PA Certification from NCCPA.
BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Minimum one (1) year of wound care experience. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
Proven knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, procedures used in adult medicine including purpose, supplies and/or equipment needed, how to perform test, exam and/or procedure accurately, infection control mechanisms and recording in medical record.
Ability to interact effectively with diverse population. Demonstration of a high level of professionalism and excellent communication skills. Ability to function as part of a team.
Excellent organizational skills in order to rapidly prioritize activities in a high-volume, dynamic, multiple demand clinic and hospital setting. Strong ability to work independently.
Ability to work with adult patients of various ages and backgrounds (socioeconomic, cultural, cognitive, etc.).
Current Advanced Wound Care Certified (AWCC), or must obtain within one (1) year of hire date.
Current Foot Care Certification (FCC) or must obtain within one (1) year of hire date.
Lean training and experience.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. Locations may include but are not limited to Hillcrest, La Jolla, and Encinitas.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
