Position Overview: The Research Animal Resources Training Coordinator is responsible for scheduling, development, oversight and administration of training courses for RAR employees and laboratory personnel at the University of Minnesota. The training coordinator ensures that appropriate courses are available, and updates content as needed to ensure that the most current information and procedures are taught.
The training coordinator also manages requests for training, and ensures that skilled course instructors are available to meet personnel needs.
The training coordinator manages the department’s seminar schedule and coordinates monthly seminars with speakers from RAR, University Health and Safety, and other lab personnel.
Some work assignments will involve exposure to animal allergens.
Position Responsibilities: Manage/schedule requests for training (40-50%) • Manage training requests for courses offered through RAR with assigned instructors offered on three areas of campus • Triage training requests and coordinate with a qualified veterinary technician instructor • Procure and track animals needed for training • Coordinate back-up instructors if main instructor is unexpectedly unavailable
Training (20-30%) • Conduct the training of new employees, including orienting new RAR employees and UMN research staff to specific animal housing facilities and RAR policies and procedures • Teach new employees animal husbandry procedures • Maintain training records • Review internal SOPs and provide recommendations for new SOPs and updates to current SOPs
Develop course content and materials (20-30%) • Develop and maintain training modules, employee sign off records and other necessary documentation required for training employees and lab members
Back-up coverage and other duties (10%) • Participate on departmental teams as assigned • Participate on special projects as assigned
Qualifications Required Qualifications: • BA/BS degree, or veterinary technician certification, or a combination of related education and work experience totaling 4 years • Experience working with animals • Strong customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience working in a University environment • AALAS Certification (ALAT)
