Description Gustavus Adolphus College is one of the nation's leading private liberal arts colleges serving over 2,200 students. Building Services as part of the Facilities Management department provides custodial and event services of approximately 50 buildings, covering 329 acres totaling over 1.7 square feet. Custodial services to areas such as Academic and Athletic facilities, Auxiliary and Chapel services and residential and apartment housing. Building services is responsible for the general daily cleaning and deep cleaning of carpets hard floors year round, and assisting with snow removal in the winter and conference support in the Summer.
JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the Manager of Building Services and daily logistical support to building teams in a manner which contributes to the effective delivery of services to all campus buildings.
*This position is full-time, 52wpy, 40hpw and non-exempt (hourly)*
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides general office support for custodial personnel.
Collects, routes, and delivers all incoming mail to appropriate personnel.
Collects daily/weekly reports, work orders, timecards, supply requests, etc. from buildings and distributes to Director or other appropriate Physical Plant personnel.
Prepares typed or word-processed correspondence, forms, reports and other communication from copy and reviews completed work for accuracy, correct grammar, clarity and format.
Prepares and maintains a file of all signage used by the department to ensure consistency and correctness of signage across campus and provides an appropriate number of copies to all buildings.
Maintains appropriate number of copies of all request forms, supply forms, written policies, etc. to ensure their continuous availability to custodial personnel, students, staff and visitors.
Monitors and maintains SDS building copies in a manner that facilitates the continuous updating of information provided to employees under OSHA rules.
Organizes and maintains an orderly office filing system in a manner that facilitates accurate and timely retrieval of information.
Works with management to establish a routine schedule to perform cleaning audits on buildings to ensure that the quality of the cleaning complies with established standards.
Performs routine check on custodial equipment to ensure that proper routine maintenance is being performed by custodial staff.
Serves as daily needs coordinator for all campus buildings, campus activities and custodial teams.
Assists with deliveries and retrieval of special supplies, linens, equipment, etc. to all buildings in a manner which provides support for the daily needs of custodial building teams, campus activities coordinators, public relations personnel, and summer programs.
Serves as stand in supervisor, in the absence of the Supervisors, to facilitate the daily functioning of the department.
Communicates with Physical Plant personnel, coordinators, custodians, etc. to ensure routine functioning of the department.
Makes decisions pertinent to the daily functioning of the department such as prioritizing work requests, meeting special requests from other departments, assigning emergency clean-up crews, and other routine situations.
Meets requests from other departments for special help with miscellaneous duties associated with campus activities such as Nobel Conference, Commencement, Christmas in Christ Chapel, etc.
Coordinates linen inventories by building for Summer Programs.
Requires and requests additional training as needed.
Contributes to a favorable work environment throughout the college community through a friendly, respectful and cooperative attitude in dealing with staff, faculty, studer.1ts and guests.
Maintains confidentiality of records and department contacts.
Assumes responsibility for becoming proficient with departmental computer programs to facilitate all document preparation and record keeping.
Assumes responsibility for applying an overall knowledge of custodial operations, as they apply to other departments, in order to complete special assignments in a satisfactory manner.
Assumes responsibility for good working knowledge of departmental and institutional policies in order to correctly answer questions or offer referral to employees.

Trains/retrains employees to ensure established cleaning procedures are clearly understood and consistently followed.
Monitors overall quality, quantity, and completeness of work in progress and reports progress and/or problems to the management.
Monitors equipment inspections and compliance.
Prioritizes work of leads and provides help when needed to cover absent or deficient employees in order to ensure that all scheduled tasks are performed completely and in a timely fashion.
Participates in annual evaluation of leads and custodians.
Reviews work assignments with leads and custodians to ensure proper procedures are followed and all assigned areas are cleaned according to work distributions.
Provides support for any afternoon projects and events set-up, and activities assists with delivery of cleaning supplies and delivery of equipment.
This position has been designated as weather- or emergency-essential. In the event of a closure of the _College, it is vital that you_ report to work only if contacted by your supervisor. You will receive regular pay for the hours normally scheduled to work that day plus your overtime rate at 1.5 times your regular rate for the actual hours worked during the closing.
2 years experience as a custodial lead or foreman.
Must be reliable, organized, and able to make discretionary decisions independently.
Must be able to demonstrate leadership and communication skills necessary to provide support and work direction to others.
Must be able to demonstrate general working knowledge of computers and Microsoft office suite.
Must have an excellent working knowledge of all standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
Exposure to and handling of cleaning solvents and other chemicals.
Normal amount of physical effort needed to perform tasks including intermittent lifting of 50 pounds or less, pushing and pulling, standing, stretching, bending, and stooping.
