Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Responsibilities: Diagnostic Sample Processing (90%) Prepare a wide variety of specimens for clinical diagnostic testing while adhering to strict BSL2 safety guidelines and standard operating procedures. Independently determine the appropriate sample preparations for molecular diagnostic testing based on the assigned test requests and sample types available, on a case by case basis. Assist downstream sections by performing advanced preparations as needed, based on the assigned testing requirements for each case. Maintain working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, vortexes, pipettes and biosafety cabinets.
Diagnostic Sample Intake & Routing (5%) Facilitate receipt of high volumes of diagnostic specimens, while adhering to strict time constraints and deadlines. Perform accurate handling and accessioning of diagnostic specimens based on submission guidelines. Independently interpret submission forms, documents, data, and client history to determine an appropriate, case specific course of action for each submission. Assign a priority level status to each case and initiate communications to downstream personnel to coordinate the distribution of samples to labs and also inform of high priority, off-schedule testing requests, or changes to in progress testing. Successfully navigate and utilize LIMS (Laboratory Information Systems) to create case numbers, track diagnostic samples.
