The purpose of this position is to assist the Vice President of Human Resources with strategic planning and serve as a business partner to campus leadership and numerous external clients. The Assistant HR Director will be second in command in the human resources office and will act as Vice President of Human Resources when necessary. This position will manage the day-to-day operations of the human resources office and provide lead work direction, training and coaching to HR Staff and ensure excellent customer service. The Assistant HR Director will be a strategic partner with campus leadership, managing projects, leading total quality improvement initiatives, and, providing human resource data to internal and external clients. The Assistant HR Director will provide labor relations advice and counsel to staff and leadership and will investigate 1B.1 discrimination complaints and employee misconduct complaints. This position will also be the designated Affirmative Action Officer and will be a champion of equity and inclusion.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the human resource office
Provide lead work direction, training and coaching to HR staff
Promote a culture of positive employee engagement
Provide expert labor relations advice and counsel to employees, leadership and supervisory personnel
Lead Affirmative Action efforts
Drive and support performance management throughout the college
Investigate employee misconduct and discrimination complaints
Write policies, procedures, investigation reports and responses to complaints
Improve hiring processes and procedures and enhance recruitment and affirmative action efforts
Manage and improve the onboarding process that includes a comprehensive new employee orientation plan
Create and manage meaningful data that will assist the college
Lead regular meetings with supervisory staff to improve performance management, evaluation completion efforts and leadership initiatives
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
Bachelor's degree in HR Management or a related field
Three (3) years of progressive HR experience demonstrating leadership and participation in strategic planning
Excellent writing skills; must be able to draft letters, write investigative reports and the Affirmative Action Plan
Experience with affirmative action plans and the application of affirmative action in the hiring process
Demonstrated experience managing projects and rolling out new initiatives
Demonstrated experience managing data requests and producing reports
Proven ability to develop positive working relationships with union officials
Experience entering data into and retrieving data from a Human Resource Information System
Experience using new technologies to support work
Experience using an applicant tracking system
Knowledge of employment laws such as FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEOC, ADA, etc.,
Demonstrated experience and ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications(desired but not expected to have to enter job)
SPHR or PHR certification
Knowledge of and experience with State of Minnesota or Minnesota State policies, procedures, and compensation systems
Experience with visa procedures
