The Public Health Nutrition program is hiring a 1.0 FTE Education Program Specialist 2 to direct the Coordinated Masters Program (MPH-RD) in Public Health Nutrition at the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health. This is a 12-month position eligible for full benefits.
The Coordinated Masters Program (CMP) is one of two Public Health Nutrition MPH tracks within the School of Public Health’s Division of Epidemiology and Community Health. The program typically admits 11 students a year, with the program lasting 2 years. Supervised practice experiences take place throughout the 2-year program. The program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The CMP Director reports directly to the Director of Public Health Nutrition.
Primary responsibilities of the CMP director include administering the CMP program, online teaching of experiential courses during the summer, training of students in dietetic skills during fall and spring semesters, recruiting and maintaining supervised practice sites, and evaluating all aspects of the program on a yearly basis.
Responsibilities include: Review and grade student assignments utilizing pre-existing rubrics. Assist with student simulations by providing individualized feedback. Develop student education modules to meet accreditation competencies. Track student completion of supervised practice rotations and assure required documentation has been submitted. Develop and administer surveys to CMP stakeholders, including preceptors, employers, present and past students. Monitor affiliation agreement database and assure university and student compliance with stipulations. Respond to prospective student questions, track volume and frequently-asked questions. Monitor CMP information on the website and propose modifications based on prospective student inquiries. Monitor admissions procedure including tracking of prospective student applications. Participate in interview process of applicants. Assist in orientation of incoming students.
Program Management (55%)
Stay abreast of ACEND standards and assure that the CMP abides to all standards, policies and procedures.
Stay abreast of Public Health accreditation requirements and assure that the CMP students complete required competencies, as required by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
Plan and supervise the completion of ACEND Knowledge Requirements, ACEND Supervised Practice Competencies, and CEPH Supervised Practice Competencies of all enrolled students.
Conduct ongoing program evaluation including evaluation of student performance. Gather and analyze feedback from students, alumni, preceptors, faculty, employers, and community members related to the program’s performance. Plan and implement curriculum changes, as needed, based on stakeholder feedback.
Utilize data gathered from the literature, ACEND, CEPH, and stakeholder meetings to forecast future marketplace needs and plan program enhancements accordingly.
Inform stakeholders of evaluation and forecasting results in addition to any changes made to the CMP curriculum because of findings.
Identify supervised practice rotations/sites and preceptors for students in various areas of practice. Maintain ongoing communication with preceptors.
Coordinate the drafting and updating of affiliation agreements between the University and supervised practice sites.
Submit reports to ACEND yearly and more frequently upon request.
Student Training Responsibilities (40%)
Review and student submissions related to their supervised practice experiences.
Develop and update education modules to meet accreditation competencies.
Train students in dietetic-specific skills through various courses: Directed Studies (2 credits each semester), Public Health/Community Nutrition skills (8 credits between Spring and Summer), Clinical Nutrition Skills (9 credits between Spring and Summer).
Supervise students periodically at the Phillips Neighborhood Clinic.
Public Health Nutrition (PHN) Major Responsibilities (5%)
Serve as Academic Advisor to assigned students and an Integrated Learning Experience Advisor, as needed.
Actively participate in the PHN Admissions Committee. Answer questions from prospective students. Actively participate in recruitment activities for prospective students. Review applications, interview admitted students, select CMP students for each cohort.
Actively participate in the PHN Curriculum Committee

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Masters degree (or higher) in nutrition or related area and at least 4 years dietetics relevant professional experience as a RD/RDN.
Credentialed by the Commission on Dietetics and Nutrition as a RD/RDN
Licensed (or eligible to be licensed) by Minnesota Licensing Board for dietetics practice
Proficiency in MS Office and Google applications.
Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
Ability to multi-task.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast-paced, complex environment with multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
At least 7 years clinical and community professional experience as a RD/RDN
Demonstrated understanding of roles and responsibilities of public health nutrition practitioners and experience in community/public health activities.
Documented record of precepting dietetic interns, course instruction, and administrative/management achievement in nutrition and dietetics education
Strong professional network ties in the field of nutrition/dietetics either regionally and/or nationally, as evidenced by participation or leadership in professional organizations, practice groups or other relevant activities.
Experience in clinical nutrition practice, including teaching about the Nutrition Care Process, proficiency with Standardized Language and writing PES statements. Ability to train students in these areas.
Proficiency in performing Nutrition Focused Physical Exams and ability to train students in this area
Knowledge of ACEND accreditation standards
