We invite applications for a Marketplace Staff position with Dining Service. The objective of the Marketplace Staff position is to prepare and serve meals in the Marketplace cafeteria and to prepare or assist preparation of meals for catered events. This position is non-exempt (hourly), 40 hours per week and benefit eligible. The position is Monday through Friday, 11:30am-8pm, and weekends as needed. This position will be working in the Hello Wok area of the Marketplace. Marketplace Staff includes the areas of Pizza/Pasta, soup & salad, Rotisserie, Ethnic/Hot Specials Line, Grille, & Deli.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Graciously greet each customer.
Understand customer's order and prepare food items as specified.
Train and supervise student employees.
Monitor food supplies and prepare orders for future service periods.
Maintain sanitary work area and complete cleaning assignments as directed.
Maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance.
Demonstrates technical production skills which at times includes the use of appropriate math, reading, writing, and oral communication skills.
Ability to organize workloads and flexibility in altering personal work schedule to meet work goals designated by work supervisors.
Exercises problem solving abilities while collecting work related information and makes recommendations and adjustments for successful task completion.
Demonstrates commitment to customer satisfaction by providing high quality products and services and appropriate communications.
Ability to work in a team setting. This includes effective communication with other staff members, student employees, and supervisors and the ability to try new methods and accept suggestion/direction for changes of procedure.
Adheres to recipe standards and directions by kitchen lead and Executive Chef.
Comply to quality and food safety standards as established by the Trainer and Certified Food Managers of the College.
Provide valuable customer feedback to Kitchen Lead, Executive Chef, and Dining Service Supervisors.
All other duties as assigned.
Prerequisites Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year experience in hotel/restaurant cooking in a high volume operation, preferably in a retail environment.
Basic math skills.
Ability to read, write, and follow recipes.
Presents professional appearance and personal hygiene and wears appropriated work uniform/attire as designated by Associate Vice President, Auxiliary Services.
One year of cooking experience in a retail environment with a high volume operation.
Extended periods of standing and walking.
Ceramic tile floor material.
Exposure to sharp instruments such as knives and meat slicers.
Exposure to and use of hot ovens, rotisserie, char broiler, griddle, deep fryer, steam wells, pasta cooker, and warming cabinets.
Strenuous physical effort at times including lifting 50# or less.
Moderate to high heat and humidity.
Exposure to cleaning and sanitizing agents.
