BEMIDJISTATEUNIVERSITY (BSU) and the Professional Education Distributive Learning (PEDL) Program invite applicants for a full-time fixed-term faculty position beginning fall 2021. PEDL, which includes DLiTE and FasTrack, is a highly regarded, student-focused, hybrid/online teacher licensure program that serves teacher candidates across Minnesota. PEDL has been offering high quality teacher licensure programming since 2002.
This is a distance learning position and does not require a full-time presence on the BSU campus in Bemidji, MN. Attendance on the BSU campus will be required for specific events throughout the year. The applicant should reside close enough to drive to Bemidji within a one-day notice. Attendance is also required four weekends per year at in-person events held at Anoka Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids, MN.

Responsibilities of the Assistant/Associate Professor of Professional Education/PEDL include:
Teaching SEP (Standards of Effective Practice) courses at the graduate and the undergraduate level in online and hybrid learning environment. Example courses include (but are not limited to): Foundations of American Education, Educational Psychology, Human Relations, Pedagogy, and Adaptions and Management.
Teaching elementary (K-6) content-specific methods course. Possible courses include Social Studies in the Elementary School, Elementary Math Methods, and Language Arts Methods.
Teaching online graduate level courses in the Masters of Teaching program and serving on a Master’s level research paper/capstone project as an advisor or committee member.
Contributing to a program of scholarship within the discipline, student advising of graduate and undergraduate students, service to the University and community, and other associated faculty duties.
Contributing to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of PEDL and the Professional Education Department, which includes curriculum development, committee work, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.
Performing PEDL faculty duties such as, supervising student teachers, connecting with K-12 public schools, marketing PEDL programs, and serving PEDL students with our “high-tech, high-touch” approach.
Assisting the professional education department with ongoing state, regional, and national accreditation and program approvals.
Commitment to quality, student-centered teaching and continued professional development to improve online teaching practice and better serve K-12 teacher candidates.
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
Earned doctorate in education or related field with preparation from a regionally accredited university or college at the start of employment.
At least three years teaching Kindergarten – sixth grade as teacher of record, or at least three years teaching language arts, math, or social studies at the 5th or 6th grade level.
Completed a state-approved teacher preparation program and licensed to teach elementary (K-6) aged students.
Preferred qualifications include:
Being PELSB and HLC approved to teach at least one of the elementary methods courses (math, social studies, or language arts). Candidate has at least 18 graduate credits in math, social sciences, or language arts or has completed a dissertation or published peer-reviewed research focused on math, social sciences, or language arts.
Demonstrates experience with and/or interest in working with students and colleagues from multicultural and diverse backgrounds and utilizing culturally responsive pedagogy and practice.
Experience teaching, or knowledge/interest in working with Native American students.
Demonstrates strong technology skills and demonstrated digital skills to deliver interactive, student-centered online and hybrid instruction.
Demonstrates expertise to prepare K-12 teacher candidates to create effective learning environments for all learners and to differentiate learning for individual students.
Evidence or willingness and ability to collaborate with peers on topics such as curriculum planning, instruction, and assessment for a variety of learners.
Knowledge and/or experience with supporting students to successfully complete the edTPA.

The historic Paul Bunyan Playhouse has a calendar of classic shows; restaurants and lounges offer weekly live music performances; the First Friday Art Walk provides a tour of new monthly art exhibits; and annual events such as the Loop the Lake Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Blue Ox Marathon, Bemidji Winterfest, and The Minnesota Finlandia bring the community together.
For those who love the outdoors, there are wooded, multi-use trail systems within minutes of campus and community parks with walking trails, playgrounds and a skate park. Lake Bemidji State Park and its miles of navigable trails is located directly across the lake from BSU, and the Buena Vista Ski Area — just 12 miles north of campus — offers downhill skiing and BSU-sponsored student transportation in the winter months. Further, the Mississippi River Headwaters is a mere 45 minutes from Bemidji.
