Metropolitan State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, and recipient of the 2019 Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Director of Multicultural, American Indian and Retention Services (MAIR).This is a full-time probationary position within the Dean of Students/Student Success division of Academic and Student Affairs.

Exercise supervisory authority and ensure that applicable labor agreements and plans are equitably administered and employees under jurisdiction of this position will effectively perform assigned job duties to achieve the annual objectives of the section.
Direct and lead the retention activities, functions, and programming of the department.
Direct and oversee student success and retention initiatives
Direct and oversee equity and inclusion education.
Serves as the budget officer for the Multicultural Affairs department, Women’s & LGBTQ Center, and Veterans Center with oversight over all budgetary matters
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

Master’s degree in related field
5 years (or sufficient combination of experience and education) working in relates roles such as multicultural, diversity or equity and/or higher education or community agencies in which similar skills are necessary.
Experience working with diverse, underrepresented and/or underserved communities and/or organizations and knowledge of equity and diversity issues and emerging trends and best practices.
Experience working with: adult or Post-Traditional learners; and/or at-risk students and students with disability; and/or international students; non-native speakers of English and/or other diverse student populations.
Experience using technology for data collection, assessment, and presentations in order to persuade and influence stakeholders concerning departmental needs
Written and oral communication sufficient to prepare messages and materials for diverse audiences and clearly explain, discuss, and present complex ideas, regulations, policies and/or procedures
Ability to design, develop, and deliver training that engages learners and achieves learning objectives
Exceptional management and leadership skills to direct and assess the work of a multi-functional department
Ability to identify and interpret applicable laws and regulations of state and federal agencies and other governing bodies (e.g. Higher Learning Commission). Knowledge of Civil Rights, Human Rights, or other similar laws or regulations pertaining to discrimination or general harassment.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff of the university
Master’s Degree or higher in Diversity related curriculum.
Experience directing work of multiple departments simultaneously, managing multiple cost centers and making budget decisions.
Experience collaborating with multiple departments within an institution.
Ability to develop relationships with related community organizations or leverage current relationships to provide additional support for our students.
Experience researching alternative funding streams and applying for such funding.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Ability to innovate solutions to situations through application of critical analysis skills.
Physical Requirements of the Job: This position requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
Salary: This is a Minnesota State Middle Management Association (MMA) position with a salary range of $59,090 (minimum) to $85,566 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State) and the MMA organization.
