Teaching special education courses at the graduate and undergraduate level at both the Mankato and Edina (Twin Cities metro) locations. Responsibilities will include but, are not limited to: teaching courses in special education across all programs in the department, online teaching, supervising clinical experiences, advising students, and participating in departmental and University initiatives.
A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned.
The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, incontributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement)
Doctorate or terminal degree in Special Education or related field. (ABD candidates may be considered with degree conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources prior to start date.)
Experience in Special Education PreK-12 settings for a minimum of 3 years.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
Successful experience in Early Childhood Special Education.
Knowledge of current trends in special education and teacher preparation.
Licensure and professional experience in multiple special education settings.
Record of successful teaching in higher education.
A working knowledge of educational technology.
Ability to work successfully with a diverse population of K-12 students, faculty and staff.
Experience in and ability to form collaborative working partnerships.
Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
Involvement in professional organizations.
Record of scholarly achievement.
K-12 licensure eligible in Special Education.

Department of Special Education – The Department of Special Education prepares undergraduate and graduate students to attain the credentials they need to succeed in a dynamic, expanding field. Our undergraduate Academic and Behavioral Strategist program gives new teachers a broad base of skills necessary to work with a variety of student needs immediately.
