TheUniversity of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a non-tenure track (contract track) full time (100% appointment) faculty positions in Comparative Cardiology at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
The successful applicants will participate in clinical service and clinical teaching (50-80% time) with the remaining 20-50% effort split principally between didactic teaching and scholarly research activities. Specific effort allocations will depend on the candidate interests and expertise as well as the needs of the hospital and department. Clinical service includes provision of state-of-the-art cardiovascular care to patients originating from the small animal hospital (https://www.vmc.umn.edu/pets), the Piper Equine Hospital (https://www.vmc.umn.edu/equine), and the Large Animal Hospital. It will also encompass providing consultation to over 50 veterinarian colleagues within the Veterinary Medical Center as well as to community veterinarians. There will also be opportunities to work with avian and other exotic animals via The University of Minnesota Raptor Center and The Como Park Zoo. Teaching include participation in the didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction of DVM students, interns, and/or residents, provision of training programs for cardiology technicians, and providing continuing education to practicing veterinarians. Creative scholarship that contributes to the generation of new knowledge through primary or collaborative efforts is desired and encouraged. Additional research opportunities are provided through the Department’s Clinical Investigation Center (https://www.vetmed.umn.edu/centers-programs/clinical-investigation-center) the School of Medicine and local biomedical companies.
Qualifications include: DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree, eligibility for certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and evidence of outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills. Preference will be given to individuals who are board certified by ACVIM (Cardiology) or ECVIM-CA, and who have outstanding clinical and teaching skills.
