Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Summary of Position: The Yang Lab at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is looking to hire a technician in plant biology. Primary duties include: 1) Optimize non-model plant germination and growth conditions in controlled environments (prior experience in plant growth is essential). 2) Troubleshoot and carry out abiotic stress experiments in non-model plant species. 3) DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, chemical extractions, sample curation 4) Training lab members in basic lab and plant growth techniques.
The appointment is flexible and can be part time or full time (20–40 hours per week).
Essential and Other Functions: 20% Lab maintenance and organization Ordering and organizing supplies, overseeing lab safety compliance
60% Data generation Plant growth, plant stress experiments, tissue collecting, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, chemical extractions.
20% Training Assist the PI with training new lab members in safety and basic lab and plant growth techniques
Essential Qualifications 1) Bachelor's degree in biology, horticulture, or related field; or combination of related education and experience to equal four years 2) Experience in plant growth and optimizing plant growth conditions 3) Experience working in a molecular lab.
Preferred Qualifications: 1) Laboratory experience in plant abiotic stress experiments, basic molecular biology techniques, and biochemistry. 2) Experience training students
