Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Summary of Position: The successful Researcher 1 will be responsible part-time for maintaining mouse colonies, including setting up breedings, weaning pups, monitoring animal health, and administering drug treatments as necessary. The successful candidate will also be required to genotype animals by preparing genomic DNA, running PCRs, and interpreting agarose gel results (with appropriate positive and negative controls). He/she will be expected to contribute to undergraduate training, maintain meticulous lab notebooks, collaborate with other lab members, document and refine standard protocols (SOPs), and perform other lab assistance and administrative tasks as necessary (reagent purchasing, stock organization, database management, etc.). He/she will report progress weekly to Dr. Harris.
Essential and Other Functions: 80% Manage and Maintain Mouse Colonies Manage and maintain mouse colonies (procedures including breeding, genotyping, weaning, drug administration, etc), maintain meticulous lab notebooks, and report progress weekly to Dr. Harris
10% Training Help monitor and train undergraduate student workers.
10% Other Perform other lab assistance and administrative tasks as necessary (update IACUC protocols/SOPs, reagent purchasing, stock organization, database management, etc.)
Required Qualifications BS degree in Genetics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biology, or related area or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.
Preferred Qualifications: At least 2 years lab experience as an undergraduate researcher. Hands-on experience with molecular biology procedures (DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis)
