The Public Safety Supervisor assists with the day to day operations of the department by directly supervising the second and third shift officers, indirectly overseeing the first shift officers when the Director is not present, and performing Public Safety Officer duties. Ensures that department procedures are followed by all Public Safety staff. This position is considered essential personnel and must be available outside of normal working hours when needed to support the college operations including, but not limited to, events, emergency situations and coverage for absences. Vacations are normally limited during those times.
Performs daily Public Safety Officer duties, including but not limited to: patrolling campus, responding to calls for service, responding to emergencies, writing reports, among other duties.
Performs all duties with customer service in mind, as it relates to students, staff, faculty, and MCAD guests, including but not limited to: deal directly with customers either by telephone, electronically or face to face; responding promptly to customer inquiries; handle and resolve customer complaints, etc.
Assists with card access management when required; including creating and programming replacement student ID cards as needed.
Follows all specific duty requirements as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual and directives given by the Director.
Provides input and assists with directives and development of policies and procedures.
Assists the director with developing training programs including: crime prevention programs for the college community; training for new employees; and in-service training.
Ensures that all equipment and keys are accounted for, maintained and utilized properly.
Reviews and approves Incident Reports and the Daily Logs occuring on the second and third shift.
Assists with investigations, which may include utilizing the card access or video camera software.
Maintains the officer daily work schedule under the direction of the director; Schedules Officer coverage for college events. Specific dates will be available on the college academic calendar and include but are not limited to: Move-in day and orientation weekend (Aug. Friday-Sun); Fall student activity dance (Sept or Oct.); Annual Art Sale (Nov.); Winter commencement (Dec.); Spring semester registration (Jan.); Spring commencement (May); Art Auction (May).
Respond to emergencies by assessing the situation, employing tact, diplomacy, and individual judgment to remedy and/or maintain control.
Arrive at work on time for scheduled shift. Be available to work any day of the week; and any shift during the week if needed.

Conducts the annual performance evaluations for the second and third shift officers.
Coordinates the day-to-day activity of the department under the direction of the director.
In coordination with the Director, hires and trains new Public Safety Officers when scheduled and applicable.
Hires, schedules, trains student door monitors.
High School diploma, or equivalent, required. Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement, preferred.
General security experience, particularly in a college environment, preferred.
Five or more years of supervisory experience in a team environment, preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of law enforcement and the key issues that impact a security officer.
Demonstrated understanding of the Campus Security or Clery Act and how it relates to the operations of a college campus.
Demonstration of excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
Demonstration of excellent management and supervisory skills, with attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize when dealing with multiple high-priority situations. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory background motor vehicle license check required. Must be able to pass the Kari Koskinen Manager Background Check and the Minnesota Law regarding the hiring of Security Officers. The college may at its discretion conduct a DMV and criminal background check at any time during employment.
This job operates in a professional office environment as well as outdoor conditions, including in inclement weather. This position requires the ability and willingness to closely partner with team members and colleagues in other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer; and walking or standing for prolonged periods. Ability to traverse various areas of the facility to provide routine patrols, conduct inspections and plan security procedures While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
