Post Doctoral Fellow - Sport Psychologist, Center for Counsel & Student Development
The University of Delaware Center for Counseling and Student Development, in partnership with the Athletic Department, is pleased to announce open recruitment for a Postdoctoral Sport Psychology Fellowship.
The purpose of the clinical sport psychology postdoctoral fellowship is to provide advanced training in counseling and sport psychology for those who have completed a psychology internship in a college or university counseling center or a similar agency. The duties include providing individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention, performance enhancement, consultations, and groups for UD student-athletes. Other responsibilities include outreach presentations, participating in multidisciplinary care meetings, assisting with programming, and supervised work with teams. The clinical sport psychology postdoctoral fellow will work under the supervision of a Delaware licensed psychologist for the athletic department at an NCAA Division I University with 20 teams and approximately 615 student athletes. The postdoctoral fellow will spend approximately 20% of their time at the Center for Counseling and Student Development, and 80% of their time at the Athletic Department.
This is a full-time position with a target start date between mid July to mid August.
Requirements: Applications are invited from persons who will complete their doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology prior to the fellowship start date. A doctorate from an APA-approved psychology program and an APA-approved internship are preferred. The successful applicant should demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based, culturally responsive treatment, interest in university counseling center work and interest in sport psychology. They must also demonstrate an interest in sport and/or academic preparation in sport psychology. Experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds is essential. Experience as a college athlete would be helpful, but not necessary. Organizational skills, follow through, excellent boundaries, openness to feedback, and ability to work independently in a responsible manner are all essential to this position.
Setting: The Center is a multi-disciplinary unit that is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services and sponsors a doctoral internship in psychology that is accredited by the American Psychological Association. The current staff consists of 16 psychologists, two psychiatrists, four doctoral interns, four postdoctoral fellows, and five support staff.
