Assistant Professor - Tenure Track
The Division of Critical Care/ Acute Care Surgery at the University of Minnesota is seeking a qualified individual for a full-time tenure track position as an Assistant Professor. Qualified candidates must have an M.D. degree and be board certified/eligible in surgery and critical care. Clinical caseload will include trauma, surgical critical care, and general surgery cases. Candiates must possess expertise in veno-venous ECMO cannulation and management. Candidates must also have a proclivity to develop an independently funded research program focusing on clinical informatics research, with a specific focus on developing a learning health system for patients with traumatic injuries. Candidates are expected to submit a K08 proposal within their first year as faculty and are expected to publish at least 5 first author manuscripts within their first two years on faculty.
Successful candidates will have strong technical skills in general surgery and experience with surgical outcomes research, health informatics, and quality improvement implementation. Specifically they will have experience with working with trauma databases such as the American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Project (TQIP) database and the National Trauma Data Bank. They must also possess expertise in biostatistics and statistical programming with R, Stata, SAS, or Python. They must have formalized training in quality improvement implementation including six sigma training and plans for future formalized training in the field of implementation science. Responsibilities include (1) participating as the attending staff in one or more of the intensive care units associated with the Division; (2) participation as a surgeon or intensivist at one of our partner facilities, (3) developing an independently funded clinical informatics research program (4) teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows; and (5) full participation in departmental activities.
