The Director of Academic Advising in Computer and Information Science (CIS) in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) will direct CIS Academic Advising. This includes guidance, direction, leadership and support of the Academic Advising staff; managing attendance and office coverage; establishing clear direction and priorities, and implementing plans to promote office efficiency, high productivity, excellent customer service.
Reporting to the Chair of Computer and Information Science, the Director of Academic Advising will work closely with the Director of Administrative Operations and the Chair and is responsible for day-to-day supervision of the CIS Academic Advising Staff. This includes guidance, direction, leadership and support for the various staff positions as well as managing attendance and office coverage. Actively manage staff to establish clear direction and priorities, and to implement plans to promote office efficiency. Set the tone for high productivity and excellent customer service. Ensure the staff delivers quality care and support to every student, faculty and staff. Monitor and promote team unity and communication, enacting and enforcing policies and procedures. Oversee the staff on special events such as orientations, open houses, Penn Previews, alumni panels, and commencement lunches.Â Handle course rostering and room scheduling.Â Contact faculty to get updates on the faculty schedule. Â Handle course waiting lists and issue course permits, as appropriate.Â
Bachelorâ™s degree; Masterâ™s degree preferred, and a minimum of five years of experience in management and supervision, preferably in a university setting. Must possess excellent leadership, analytical, decision-making, and customer service skills.Â Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Proven ability to plan, implement, manage and evaluate initiatives, programs and activities. Must be able to be a self starter, effectively manage multiple projects and work in a team environment. Must work well with staff, faculty, students, and other constituencies. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Google and Wordpress. Familiarity with IRQDB, Advisor InTouch and Penn InTouch database systems preferred.
