We seek a highly-qualified individual who can contribute to field-shaping research, teaching, and engaged scholarship in graphic design, with expertise in user experience (UX) design. Successful candidates must have a clear research agenda that is aimed at contributing to the wide range of approaches, technologies, and modalities in the field. Such scholarly endeavors and accomplishments may include but are not limited to: creating influential models of new platforms and genres for interactive systems; generating new methods for prototyping and distribution of designed artifacts; theorizing on evaluation methods; designing for users with disabilities; and service design.
This position will involve developing and teaching multidisciplinary courses for various programs across the College of Design and collaborating with allied fields, such as Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human-Centered Design, and Human Factors. The candidate will have a deep understanding of graphic design practice (preferably through applied experiences), which enables them to teach graphic design classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to situate UX into professional practice, and to participate in portfolio reviews for the graphic design program. The successful candidate will develop peer-reviewed scholarship, inclusive to research and/or creative production. They will be expected to support interdisciplinary initiatives in teaching and research with related fields in the College of Design and across the University and community, to participate in department and college committees, to maintain relationships with the local graphic design professional community, to support and advance the college's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to contribute to and support the mission of the land-grant institution. Graphic Design is one of the largest programs in the College of Design. We are looking for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Graphic Design, with expertise in user experience (UX) design. Nine-month, 100 percent time, academic-year appointment. Anticipated start date is August 31, 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience.
