Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Responsibilities: 50% Manages experiments, project workflows, and all laboratory data Provides work direction to 2-3 laboratory technicians and 2+ graduate students Conducts laboratory supply and media inventory, ordering, and equipment maintenance Conducts lab safety certification and training of new staff and students Coordinates farm sampling and sample processing and storage Troubleshoot errors or problems in data and experiments
50% Participate in study design and development of new methods or avenues of investigation with PI Evaluates and develops protocols and new procedures Selects and adapts equipment and laboratory materials to meet requirements of the laboratory study or specified research needs Conducts research in tandem with lab staff as well as independently in bacterial culture and identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, qPCR, DNA extraction, next-generation sequencing submission, bioinformatics Maintains a detailed and self-explanatory laboratory notebook and generates databases and reports Analyzes qPCR and bioinformatics data using statistical programs Leads lab meetings and confers with PI and lab on interpretation of results and new avenues of investigation

Required Qualifications: • BA/BS in biological/biomedical sciences field and 2 years of related experience, or a combination of education and work experience to equal 6 years • At least 2 years of experience in the following molecular and microbiological techniques: bacterial culture, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, DNA extraction, qPCR, and next-generation sequencing submission and analysis • Experience writing grant proposals and manuscripts for publication • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills; demonstrated written and oral communication ability • Proficiency generating databases in Microsoft Office
Desired Qualifications: • MS in biological/biomedical sciences field and 3 years of related experience • Experience in bioinformatics, multivariate statistics, and coding in languages such as bash, Python, R, SAS/SPSS/other statistical programs • Previous lab management experience
