The Director of Grants and Research encourages, facilitates, and supports members of the campus community in securing external funding for their research endeavors. This position manages the daily operations of the Grants and Research Office, identifying and acquiring financial support, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The Director provides support and external grant application coordination for proposal writing. The Director also coordinates grant-related activity with the university's accounting services unit, and provides assistance and support to both the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The position reports to the Associate Provost.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
Experience working with grants (e.g. proposal writing)
Experience in developing and working with budgets
Must be able to work well independently, under pressure, and meet strict guidelines, laws, and time frames
Knowledge of grant resources (e.g. COS, GRC, CUR)
Understanding of federal regulations and agency guidelines for grants management and research, such as NSF, US DOE, NIH, NEA, and NEH
Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills
Demonstrated project management abilities
Understanding of both human subjects and animal welfare compliance, and research ethics
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student and staff populations
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Master’s, or higher, degree from an accredited college/university
Experience working in higher education
Strong technology skills
Experience supervising employees and/or graduate students
Experience organizing and/or providing workshops and/or training sessions
Familiarity with and/or demonstrated ability to follow UW System, Board of Regent, and State policies and guidelines
