ABOUT THIS POSITION
This position is part of Extension’s Pesticide Safety and Environmental Education (PSEE) program. The PSEE program provides statewide education and leadership for pesticide-related topics of safety, health, security and environmental protection using integrated pest management and occupational safety frameworks with substantial economic and quality of life impacts. PSEE provides education for Minnesota’s 17,000 certified farmers and other agricultural producers through its Private Pesticide Applicator Training program (PPAT). The PSEE program is the major provider in Minnesota of education to the more than 11,000 occupational and professional licensed and certified applicators in natural resources, agriculture, horticulture, public health and other industries and business sectors. The program also develops educational materials and presentations, provides a wide range of educational workshops, has a growing social media presence and is responsible for Minnesota’s various pesticide applicator certification categories study manuals.
This position assists the PSEE Operations Manager and Program Coordinators with management of the Private Pesticide Applicator (PPAT) testing program, and commercial/non-commercial pesticide applicator precertification and recertification program.
Major areas of responsibility:
Coordinate of the Private Pesticide Applicator (PPAT) testing program: 85%
Serve as the main point of contact for the PPAT program.
Address or coordinate responses for matters and customer support related to the private applicators, which includes responding to emails and phone calls to troubleshoot issues encountered by test takers.
Process mail-in and online exams, which involves having exams scored and creating reports for partnering licensing agency, tracking exam retakes, and sending mail-in exam results/receipts and workshop receipts to program applicants.
Assist with approximately 58 to 65 recertification workshops for about 2600 applicators, including registrations and payments.
Research and reconcile possible discrepancies of partner agency with any records or questions regarding applicants’ certification status efficiently.
Assist with annually revising the program's mail-in exam and distributing it to county Extension offices.
Update and proof the PSEE program website.
Troubleshoot applicator computer issues with online application or registration program, and assisting them to resolution.
Support commercial/non-commercial programs: 10%
Assist with workshops, including data entry, processing payments, getting materials and equipment to instructors, and maintaining online resources.
Complete data entry of program evaluation forms, reporting evaluation forms; summarizing and reporting of evaluation data.
Drive to workshop sites to help with registration.
Other duties as assigned: 5%
Duties may involve assisting PSEE Program Coordinators in construction of online courses and/or training manuals, or other duties as assigned.
High school diploma/GED and four years of related office experience. Training/education may be substituted for up to two years of experience.
Experience working with large, diverse client data base involving complex technical systems.
Documented experience with data entry, mail-merges, word-processing, electronic presentations, spreadsheets, proofing documents, online reporting and researching, electronic organizing, and handling financial transactions.
Experience related to technical support and trouble shooting.
Experience handling multi-step process with accuracy and precision for data processing and reporting to a partner.
Able to travel to workshops, have a valid MN driver’s license, and a reliable vehicle.
Excellent verbal and written customer service skills, having patience with customers needing technical assistance in accessing online programming.
Must be able to see big-picture view and work down to the details of a project/process. Able to handle work interruptions without losing track of the process.
Must be responsible, trustworthy, detailed-oriented, taking direction and yet be self-directed, and self-motivated, working through and completing tasks and projects; and be able to work as a team producing timely results and work within timeline deadlines, working with multiple programs and processes in any given time period. Be able to handle fast-paced and changing directions depending on need.
Familiar with online course development.
Experience writing and designing written materials.
Experience and skill with Microsoft Office software, Google Suite, Filemaker, Indesign, Photoshop, DORS and Canvas.
Able to meet deadlines, take initiative on tasks and work independently.
Able to manage multiple tasks using excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.
Willing to take on other job duties as programs change and develop.
Website experience/registration site building.
Knowledge or experience with Desktop publishing/design, and/or Photoshop, Adobe Suite products.
