The Office of Admissions at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Director position. The responsibilities of this position include:
Provide leadership and oversight for undergraduate underrepresented student recruitment, including but not limited to, attending targeted events, working with the Enrollment Research team, and keeping fellow staff members informed of trends related to underrepresented, college-going students.
Provide leadership and oversight for domestic freshmen recruitment and innovation. Responsibilities include staff leadership and management by developing goals and objectives such as hiring, training, motivating, supervising, and evaluating five entry-level admissions counselor positions and a graduate assistant. Develop and execute creative ideas to help prospective freshmen students find their fit at Iowa State.
Serve as a liaison for enrollment presentations for thousands of prospective undergraduate students and family members visiting Iowa State annually through the daily campus visit program and large group visit programs. Present to groups ranging in size from one to several hundred.
Manages a geographic recruitment territory
Coordinate activities for the Alumni Admissions Council â a nationwide network of Iowa State alumni who represent the University to prospective undergraduate students at college fairs and other recruitment events throughout the United States.
Assist with all other aspects of the Office of Admissionsâ new undergraduate student recruitment efforts (e.g., conduct occasional high school visits and attend college fairs, provide support to Orientation and Destination Iowa State programs, assist with transfer recruitment events, meet individually with prospective students and families in-office, etc.).
The successful candidate will be an out-of-the-box thinker, willing to explore strategies and activities standard for freshmen recruitment. The successful candidate must show a commitment to hire, work with and serve diverse staff members and students, and understand and value the various identities colleagues and prospective students bring to campus. The person in this position will possess outstanding written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and working with diverse populations, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of constituents, including, but not limited to alumni, high school students, families, high school counselors, and support and professional staff. The candidate will also possess a working knowledge of microcomputer skills, especially in PC environment with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; be willing to work under pressure, work extended hours, such as early mornings, late evenings and weekends, as necessary throughout the year; and have the ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
