Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Job Duties/Responsibilities 50% - Conduct Molecular Biology Experiments - Cell culture both cell lines and primary cells - Western blots, immunoprecipitation, biochemical structure function experiments Generate cDNA library and amplify target genes intoexpression vectors as part of mechanistic and confirmatory studies - Research available literature and resources for conducting experiments -Manage the mouse colony, which includes housing, breeding and weaning mice, monitoring the health of the colony and research protocols of mice on a regular basis
35% - Proteomics Studies - Process clinical samples for studies including optimizing protocols for protein isolation, digesting and label-based or label-free MS studies - Work closely with proteomics core - Occassionally help research coordinators with sample procurement, and enter clinical information in electronic database
10% - Maintain Laboratory Equipment - Maintain and calibrate equipment as necessary - Maintain laboratory notebook
5% - Meet Regulatory Requirements - Handle blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, hazardous waste, shipping safety, clinical data according to HIPPA standards - Conduct procedures according to IACUC protocols - Use of and documentation of controlled substances in small animal surgeries.
Required Qualifications (Must be documented on resume/application materials): - BA/BS in Biology or related field and at least 1 year of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal five years. - Previous experience working in a laboratory or research setting - Demonstrated high-level organizational skills, communication - Ability to follow instruction and clear objectives of the team - Willingness to work as a team, yet capable of handling situations independently - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail - Experience working with laboratory animals (i.e. mice) - Proficient experience with Microsoft Office Suite/Google Applications
Preferred Qualifications - Able to perform cell culture, western blots, immunoprecipitation and biochemical structure function experiments - Research experience and skills in molecular and cell biology - Familiarity with bioinformatics tools - Demonstrated previous experience creating presentations and reporting data and/or scientific findings - Experience with mice or rat injections, specifically IM, IP and/or IV
