The School of Engineering + Technology at Western Carolina University (WCU) has an opening for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Engineering or Engineering Technology beginning Fall 2020. This is a nine (9) month tenure-track position. The successful candidate will have a solid commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, scholarship, and professional service to the university and community. All engineering and engineering technology programs are accredited by ABET's EAC and ETAC, respectively. The college was recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a top 100 Undergraduate Engineering program.
Programs in the school have a strong emphasis on applied, Project-Based Learning (PBL) as evidenced by the industrial experiences of our faculty. Applicants with an extensive practical laboratory and industry experience will be reviewed favorably. Applicants must be able to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in one or more of the following areas, will be given favorable consideration.
- CNC machining processes - Advanced manufacturing processes - Materials processing - Automation and robotics applications in manufacturing systems
The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellence in teaching and applied scholarship, based on the Boyer model of Scholarship at both the Bachelors and Masters levels. Successful applicants will have proven excellence, or potential, in teaching, scholarship, and service. Tenure-track faculty seek research opportunities through the College's Rapid Center. Many opportunities for service exist inside and outside the university. Applicants must be able to teach at both the Bachelors and Masters levels including thesis supervision and laboratory instruction.

The campus is located midway between Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. An instructional site for certain programs is located in Asheville, North Carolina.
To be considered candidates must have a minimum of three years relevant industry experience or equivalent. A degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field is required. A doctorate degree in one of the disciplines above is required by the starting date.
The position requires demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication, along with excellent interpersonal skills.
