SUMMARY: Support the operational needs of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) & Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), including correspondence, coordinating receipt of and establishing protocol for filing of proposals, scheduling meetings, and follow-up on IRB/IACUC requests from principal investigators. Under the general direction of the Director of Research Compliance and Regulatory Programs, this position provides professional support via customer service to students, faculty and departments interacting with the Institutional Review Board office and Institutional Animal Care and Use Office. Must demonstrate the following: (i) initiative in problem-solving; (ii) ability to work independently; (iii) complete project assignments in a timely fashion.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: IACUC Support:
Reports to the Director of Research Compliance and Regulatory Programs and contributes to reporting and documents required for federal assurances, incidents or complex protocol reviews.
Process and manage IACUC protocol review workflow from submission to approval to ensure a smooth and efficient approval process. Process and manage renewals and amendments for active protocols.
Regularly correspond with Attending Veterinarian and back-up Veterinarian.
Maintains knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations for animal care and use, most importantly Animal Welfare Act, PHS Policy, USDA, the Guide for Animal Laboratory Use and Welfare.
Directly correspond with Animal Researchers regarding reviewer findings and protocol approval lifecycle.
Analyzes, reviews and interprets applicable animal welfare regulations as it pertains to the IACUC procedures.
Oversees maintenance of all physical and electronic files, related to reviews, IACUC records, occupational health clearance, CITI training, OLAW and USDA; including upload of any necessary documents to CANVAS or IACUC Share folder.
Prepare for the Semi Annual Inspection and IACUC meeting, as well as participate as IACUC coordinator and alternate reviewer.
Schedule the use of MSU facilities and/or equipment for IACUC’s meetings, events and educational workshops.
Collaborate with Research Compliance Officer in development of IACUC office Policies and Procedures.
Assist in management and maintenance of content on IACUC webpage.
Participate in professional development and attendance at conferences for establishment of ongoing training and education in human subjects protection and animal welfare topics.
Process and coordinate Cayuse IRB protocol review workflow from submission to approval to ensure a smooth and efficient approval process.
Maintains knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations for human subjects protections, most specially federal code of regulations, 45 CFR 46.
Consult with the Senior IRB Coordinator on a regular basis concerning progress on assignments and to resolve problems.
Serve as liaison to the research community and provide guidance and direction regarding IRB submissions and Board requirements.
May assign and supervise the work of part-time and/or student workers if required.
Processes communication of IRB deliberations to investigators, sponsors, and funding sources.
Prepare and distribute IRB correspondences to Board members, PIs, faculty, staff, and students.
Maintain all physical and electronic IRB files.
Provide access to, develop, and/or supervise educational workshops/seminars for students, staff and others.
Order and maintain office supplies and equipment, including track purchasing and spending.
Develop informative materials regarding the IRB for distribution. Attend and participate in meetings and/or college events related to research, ethics, and compliance.
Collaborate with IRB Coordinator to create calendar for IRB meetings and submission deadlines, as well as prepare for meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in professional level administrative work.
Minimum of one year of professional experience in one of the following: 1)IRB office; 2)IACUC office; or 3)Grants Office.
Working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

Experience working in both IRB and IACUC functions.
