Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Summary of Essential Job Duties:
In collaboration with General Biology Instructor and reporting to the Biology Department Chair this position will manage and maintain efficient and orderly laboratory facilities, equipment, and related support activities within the department.
Typically a Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field is required. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
Two years of computer experience involving the use of word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: college level general chemistry and general biology and working knowledge of basic computer operations including word processing, database and spreadsheet software.
Laboratory skills including but not limited to — be able to operate standard laboratory instrumentation; experience with the preparation of chemical solutions and reagents including the handling of potentially dangerous chemicals; ability to accurately measure, prepare and dispense chemical reagents, solutions, and media; ability to operate or learn to operate instruments utilized in the laboratories; and knowledge of aseptic technique.
Ability to supervise students working in departmental laboratory and be thoroughly familiar with standard practices used in undergraduate science laboratories.
Demonstrated skill at interacting effectively with students, faculty and other staff members and thoroughly familiar with standard practices used in undergraduate science laboratories.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of relevant systems.
