The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.
Description of Primary Duties:
The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Missouri State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position. Start date for the position is August 2020.
The standard teaching load for research-active faculty is three classes per semester. Both online and classroom teaching are required, with supplemental teaching opportunities during intercessions and summer months. Scholarly activity and publication, along with teaching and service, are required for tenure and promotion.
Missouri State University offers a research-supportive environment that includes summer fellowships and faculty research grants.

Missouri State University (26,000 students) is located in Springfield, the principal city of an expanding metropolitan area with over a half million residents. Springfield sits on a plateau overlooking the majestic Ozark mountain region, just 40 miles north of Branson, MO. The Springfield area has a cost of living significantly below the national average and provides abundant opportunities for entertainment and outdoor recreation. The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice has approximately 450 undergraduate and 40 graduate students.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
A PhD in Criminology/Criminal Justice or closely related discipline is required. ABD candidates realistically scheduled to complete the dissertation by the time of appointment will be considered.
ABD applicants should include a detailed update on their dissertation progress.
