This position is located at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum (MLA), and is a senior manager of the Arboretum’s Operations team. The position will manage all aspects of facilities operations, deferred maintenance projects, construction, renovation, maintenance and project and facility management at the MLA and Horticultural Research Center (HRC) including all buildings, garden hardscapes, roads, utilities, and other facilities. This position is also responsible for oversight of planned renovations and emergency repairs and has the responsibility to supervise the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of the MLA facility and equipment.
50% - Facility Management Manages all aspects of operating and maintenance of the Arboretum’s campuses/hubs including the Main campus, HRC, Red Barn Farm and Shops / Greenhouses. Assess current conditions and work with the Director of Operations on future facility requirements. Oversee preventive maintenance for all buildings, grounds hardscape and associated equipment. Responsible for obtaining service contracts, ordering materials, and assisting with future decisions on preventative maintenance. Perform or contract inspections as required by risk insurance and University. Analyzes work requirements appropriate for facilities that house living plant collections, diverse work activities, nearly 500,000 annual public visitors, large-scale exhibits, diverse educational programming, and special events all according to the Arboretum’s high quality standards.
30% - Project Management Coordinates and manages all aspects of construction, renovation and maintenance projects not assigned to the University’s Capital Project Management (CPM) team. Requesting project numbers, obtaining and approving permits, obtaining estimates from different contractors and working with University Purchasing, coordinating the projects with Arboretum departments to leave as little impact as possible on events and public.
10% - Supervision Provides supervisory and managerial oversight to a skilled team in a variety of trades. Completes time management reports, approves time and absences, and assist with work schedules as needed for the efficient operation of the facilities. Supervise building mechanics, security supervisor, and the custodial (B & G) supervisor.
10% - Administrative Balance budget reports, attend meetings with other departments as required, manage MLA staff key assignment, and maintain facility use records for the University’s Office of Space Management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS Degree plus at least four years relevant experience* in complex building mechanical maintenance and operations experience, including at least two years leading maintenance teams and operations work, or a combination of relevant education (technical training) and relevant work experience to equal eight years.
*(Relevant mechanical/operations experience includes planning and scheduling system repairs and upgrades, preventive maintenance, and inspections for multiple facilities, and work with building controls and automation systems)
