Principle Duties 80% Technical: Work closely with Data Management team to enhance data architecture; query, extract, format and deliver data according to project needs. • Assist the Research Data Management team in designing and enhancing the dental data informatics infrastructure. • Develop queries to extract and transform data using tools such as SSMS, SQL Developer, SAS and/or R. • Conduct feasibility analysis in collaboration with Informatics Consultants to ensure project requirements can be processed through available informatics services. Assess data availability and communicate back to investigators and research personnel. • Work closely with other team members to review execution plans and validate query results; follow standard operating procedures and adhere to team policies and best practices.
10% Documentation: Capture and document project requirements • Create documentation that captures project requirements, business rules and the desired output for data requests. • Collaborate with senior Analysts on developing an implementation plan and detailing the project execution and delivery phases. • Contribute to technical documentation related to infrastructure enhancements; maintain and enhance the data dictionary as new data are integrated.
10% Administrative: • Ensure that all informatics activities meet various compliance standards, IRB, data security, and contractual obligations of the University of Minnesota. • Train users on data access procedures and self-service tools. • Capture needs for potential future enhancements to the dental informatics infrastructure. • Ensure that delays or issues are regularly communicated with team management.

Required Qualifications: • BA/BS with at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 6 years. Experience must include querying, extracting, formatting, and analyzing healthcare data such as labs, medications, procedures, provider data and/or claims. • Query development and report writing experience using T-SQL, PL/SQL, SAS and/or R programming languages. • Knowledge of healthcare data management concepts. • Previous exposure to regulatory/compliance policies (HIPAA, IRB, etc.). • Superior human relation skills, such as, the ability to use positive language communications to serve and influence our customers and stakeholders. • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously. • Comfortable following directions/instructions from supervisors and senior staff.
Preferred Qualifications: • Knowledge of clinical data and healthcare code sets and ontologies (ICD9/ICD10, CPT, RxNorm, SNOMED CT, SNODENT, LOINC, etc.). • Knowledge of dental ontologies and dental electronic health record data is a plus. • Strong customer-facing experience, preferably with clinicians, investigators, faculty/academic and research support staff. • Experience with data visualization tools (Qlikview, Tableau). • Exposure to statistical modelling and/or advanced analytics using R or Python.
