The University of Minnesota seeks a proven technology leader to provide strategic direction, leadership, and operational excellence of its world-class enterprise infrastructure, including networking, server and storage administration, databases, and data center operations. The Senior Director serves as a member of the IT Leadership Team within the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and reports directly to the Vice President and Chief Information Officer. OIT has approximately 500 employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $96 million. It is the University's central IT unit and provides enterprise-level technologies and services that are broadly consumed and core to central administrative business operations.
This position is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota at our Twin Cities campus, but will serve all five system campuses and support the University’s critical infrastructure partnerships. The Senior Director provides vision and direction for the approximately 100 full-time staff who provide enterprise-level infrastructure services and support.
Salary Range: $140,000-$170,000 (depends on qualifications)

Provide IT strategy formulation and administration in partnership with IT Leadership team. Ensure alignment of infrastructure services and roadmaps with strategic objectives.
Promote and establish strategic technology partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Drive ITIL-based operational support models across enterprise applications and systems, ensuring the highest levels of stability and performance for enterprise systems.
Oversee infrastructure, architecture, and networking and telecommunications projects and activities in alignment with strategic vision and direction.
Increase efficiency and effectiveness of overall service delivery with an emphasis on ensuring an excellent customer and end user experience.
Plan and manage operational budget of $43 million in collaboration with the OIT Business Office.
Partner with senior leadership to identify, assess and mitigate operational security risks.
Champion service quality through compliance with IT standards and support of internal audit efforts.
Develop and coach managers to be effective people leaders. Perform and provide guidance on job design, staffing, performance management, resource allocation and skills forecasting. Set clear expectations and hold managers accountable for team performance.
Foster an inclusive environment appreciative of differences in the workplace. Meaningfully participate in and lead efforts to support the University’s commitment to equity and diversity.

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of related experience to include information technology managerial experience in a complex organization.
Significant experience and understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure and production.
Experience in supporting a large base of users and systems in a diverse and complex organization.
Ability to establish productive relationships and build trust among stakeholders.
Prior experience with performance management, resource forecasting and hiring, job development, unit organizational structure, resource allocation, skills forecasting and development, direct report coaching and development.
Experience building a diverse workforce and fostering and encouraging inclusive management behaviors.
