University of Minnesota Athletic Facilities Department Job Description
I. Position Title: Building & Grounds Worker – Williams Arena, Maturi Pavilion and the Baseline Tennis Center
II. Supervisor’s Title: Assistant Director of Operations – Williams Arena and Maturi Pavilion
III. Job Duties: A. Acts as lead worker for the student staff performing custodial, event conversions and grounds duties in the Williams Arena/Maturi Pavilion/Baseline Tennis Center Complex B. Responsible for the coordination of overall custodial service in all interior and exterior areas of assigned facilities on a consistent and continuous basis. C. The position performs custodial related duties to ensure facility readiness for the following operations and activities; team practices and maintained for public renters and operational usage. D. Shifts will be first/day shifts but must be able to work varied work schedules. The schedule will be completed in advance by Asst. Director of Operations based on the facility events. Must be available nights, weekends, holidays and be able to work varied work schedules.
IV. Job Responsibilities A. 50% Custodial Operations i. Conduct and coordinate daily, weekly, monthly custodial tasks as well as special projects as needed with assistance from a student workers. ii. Acceptance of all deliveries to the Loading Dock. 1. Communication and coordination with subcontractors iii. Inspections of the condition of all floors, furnishings, windows, blinds, and lights. Implements solutions and creates a plan and schedule for maintaining proper conditions of all items. iv. Maintains vigilant look out for hazards such as leaking pipes, unattended waste, etc. v. Check and properly maintain equipment such as scrubbers, sweepers, athletic equipment, etc. vi. Follows up on workforce custodial checklists for completion. vii. Duties to be completed in all areas of the building but are not limited to pulling trash, vacuuming, dusting, fully cleaning restrooms, window cleaning, floor cleaning etc.
B. 40% Events and Conversions i. Performs event setup and teardown conversions in assigned facilities ii. Interpret conversion diagrams to ensure client requirements are maintained. iii. Uses event diagrams to properly set spaces for event needs while verifying safe pathways and access for guests and working staff. iv. Audit tables, chairs, staging, and other event equipment for safe usage and facilitates repairs as needed. v. Assists with the monthly scheduling of student employees to ensure adequate coverage for daily and event use. vi. Assists with meetings as needed throughout the year, as well as assist with other needs that may be requested by Athletic department building occupants.
C. 10% Other Duties as Assigned i. Act as a lead worker for part-time staff 1. Actively engage in the recruiting and interviewing of part-time student employees. 2. Properly train laborers on all tasks and event conversions to be completed. 3. Assist with coordination and delivery of annual chemical and event conversion trainings. 4. Assist with performance evaluations on part-time employees to communicate expected levels of performance under the position’s direct supervision. ii. V. Qualifications: A. Minimum i. Ability to lift 50 pounds ii. Knowledgeable regarding custodial and maintenance aspects with regards to caring for a facility. iii. Ability to multitask, prioritize and complete tasks with a sense of urgency and customer satisfaction.
