Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Duties: This position includes duties related to sample handling/processing within a combined molecular-microbiology laboratory, including: --maintenance of laboratory records --inventory management --sample submission and tracking --QC of laboratory processes
Other duties include routine sample processing, e.g.,: --DNA/RNA extraction --library preparation for shotgun metagenomic, targeted and 16S rRNA next-generation sequencing --qPCR --culture and isolation for various bacterial taxa --functional assays --antimicrobial susceptibility testing --QC for all steps of molecular and microbiological protocols
Other duties will include support of diverse laboratory resources, including: --maintenance of laboratory website --organization of lab group meetings and other activities --logistical support of field-based sample collection efforts (and participation in these efforts if needed) --maintenance of online lab repositories and documentation, including numerous Team Drives, GitHub, Dropbox and lab server
Effort: 75% of time will be spent in the lab: --routine sample processing --support of assay development --basic and intermediate molecular techniques
25% of time will be spent on lab-related administrative tasks, including: --maintenance of laboratory records --inventory management --maintenance of online laboratory resources --assistance in organizing lab group activities, including meetings and sampling efforts
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications: --BS/BA in any field and at least 1 years' experience working in a laboratory setting or equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal 5 years. --Previous experience with food-related research --Attention to detail and strong capacity for organization of tasks and workflows --Ability to work independently yet collaboratively --Strong work ethic with demonstrated productivity --Solid communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: --Previous experience with molecular biology techniques --Experience with bioinformatics and/or computer programming
