Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
A support staff scientist position is open in the Masonic Cancer Center Analytical Biochemistry Shared Resource Facility. The primary purpose of this position is to support a well-functioning mass spectrometry laboratory providing analytical services for members of the Masonic Cancer Center. Working independently with minimal guidance, job responsibilities include:
(40%) Operation, maintenance and repair of GC-MS and LC-MS instrumentation, including 8 LC-triple quadrupoles, 2 LC-ion traps, 2 GC-MS instruments, and 3 Orbitrap HRAM mass spectrometers. This includes periodic cleaning, calibration and tuning of mass spectrometry instrumentation as well as maintenance and troubleshooting of GC and LC equipment. These efforts will require collaboration with other facility staff and service engineers .
(40%) Training users in the operation of the instrumentation hardware and software and assisting with data analysis.
(20%) Assisting in the management of the laboratory by keeping logs of instrument maintenance and performance as well as supply ordering/restocking. In addition, instrument usage record keeping and billing will be required.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biological sciences or related field plus 2 years’ experience in a research laboratory or combination of relevant education & experience to total 6 years.
Experience with analytical methods of GC-MS and LC-MS.
Experience using Thermo Scientific mass spectrometers and Xcalibur software. Advanced degree.â‹
